The purpose of the Takoma Park Volunteer Fire Department is to protect the residents of the City of Takoma Park and its environs from the ravages of fire and such other emergencies or disasters as may threaten their persons or property. The Takoma Park Volunteer Fire Department (TPVFD) incorporated
is the Fire and Rescue Department that serves the entire city of Takoma
Park and the adjacent UN-incorporated areas of Montgomery County, Maryland.
Its volunteers have been serving the Takoma Park community
since 1894. The TPVFD also responds to emergencies in other parts of the
county as a cooperating agency of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue
Commission as well as to neighboring parts of Prince Georges County
and the District of Columbia under the Metropolitan
Washington Council of Governments Mutual Aid Plan. The TPVFD is based
at Fire Station # 2 located at the intersection
of Carroll Ave. and Philadelphia Ave. in the neighborhood known as Takoma
Junction.
The staffing that provides service to the residents and visitors to our service area is composed of both Career and Volunteer Fire Fighter / Rescuers and Volunteer Medical Attendants (Emergency Medical Technicians). The career staff are civil service employees of the Montgomery County Government Department of Fire and Rescue Services. The volunteers are members of the TPVFD. The TPVFD in cooperation with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Commission operates a basic life support ambulance designated Ambulance 29, two pumping engines designated Engine 21 & Engine 22, and an aerial ladder truck designated Truck 2. |
